A specialized pre-purchase inspection

Most visual cookie-cutter style inspections from "big outfits", "general mechanics", and "inspectors" that have no real background experience or are no longer in the field, typically all use the same generic 100-150 point check box list for all the cars they inspect. When a point on the list doesn't apply, it doesn't get a substitute, they cross it off and move on. For instance: a pre-war antique car will not conform to the same generic list the "inspector" uses for a modern domestic truck, and that list will not be valid for a super car or exotic car either. We are immersed in the field, actively engaged in auto repair and light restorations at our shop. We go in depth on a car by car, platform by platform, build by build basis, looking at all the critical details that relate to that particular model, unit, powertrain, or production run. Bluntly, if our composite style inspection was distilled into list form, there would likely be well over 300 critical points of interest that require careful scrutiny as a starter to the actual examination. We pick up and get under each vehicle we inspect and remove pans and shielding as needed. Most dealers and car lots will allow us to use their lifts and we carry specialized insurance for this very thing. Should that option not exist, we use our equipment in the field to do so. Nothing will impede Drewmotive from assessing a car in whole for a client.

Because we service and repair cars, we also know what to look for when inspecting them beyond the typical and routine things. Inspections also include more than simply scanning the "universal" OBDII codes, as we have the factory-level tools to collect all the important data in all the electronic controllers in almost any car. We also maintain scanners that can collect codes and data from OBDI cars built before 1996 that require proprietary connectors to access their controllers. Whenever possible, we run diagnostics out in the field during our inspections, in order to obtain the root causes of errors and areas of concern we encounter. Some diagnostics are in the form of run-time data assessment while on a test drive, and other times it's checking sub-systems with bi-directional controls to actuate that system and determine why a fault exists with no code logged in the sub-controller. To believe a system must be working fine because no codes were present, is not a correct assumption. A controller can report "no codes present" and still have an error. Identifying a system with trouble is a start, but finding out why a fault exists, what it may take to repair, and what it could cost, yields a better understanding of the vehicle, and gives my client(s) greater ability to correctly proceed.

Just because a vehicle was found to have issues, doesn't neccessarily condemn the vehicle and the potential sale, as severity and correctability must be deliberated. Typically, the right path foreward is determined with careful consideration of the vehicle's overall value, the price it's offered at, the price after thoughtful negotiation (with inclusion of findings), and the cost of re-investment after the purchase. Knowing tire tread depth and exact brake pad thickness in millimeters is good, but knowing your inspector checks into model-specific problems for factual answers to determine the probability of trouble that isn't manifested by a code at the time of inspection, is much better. Many times, it's what is not covered on a visual general "inspection" that leads you to believe no problem was found, when in fact, a problem existed, but went unreported. Speaking of which, do you know if your "inspector" is familiar with the latest manufacturer TBS's and/or silent campaigns that may relate to the vehicle you need inspected? It simply isn't good enough to parse a few forums before heading out to see a vehicle with a short universal list of mandated things to check.

Remember: an inspection is only as good as the inspector, their experience, the methods used, and the ability to communicate the results in an understandable fashion.

We inspect everywhere

We perform composite used car pre-purchase inspections (PPI) with an in-house inspection at our facility, an on-site inspection by traveling to dealerships and car lots, or a mobile inspection at a private seller, for all local, out-of-state, and international clients. We can travel to the location of the car you wish to purchase and inspect it. We also offer extended-travel inspections for vehicles located outside the Dallas Fort Worth area, or outside the state of Texas.

Our composite pre-purchase vehicle inspections can be placed into Four distinct styles: Flat, Balanced, Dynamic, and Fluid. Each style fits the needs of the buyer and the car they are looking to acquire.

All our inspections are done with the same super-high level of care and attention to details at all times and come with unlimited client support. They are simply sharpened into four distinct styles to focus in on and deliver the results that matter most to the client.

I offer unlimited inspection support

I offer unlimited support, communications, and advice with all composite pre-purchase inspections. It's important for an inspector to speak directly with you. Reading inspection reports often times raises questions with my clients, and as such, I communicate directly with them after each inspection. I explain in detail my findings and what those findings mean.

Inspections can reveal errors that need repair and/or areas of concern that need attention and the client will need support in working through these details with the dealer or seller. This usually leads to speaking directly with the salesperson or seller, on behalf of the client, and I represent my clients in this fashion however they need it.

I am always available to talk about the inspection and answer any questions. At times, clients will have concerns and questions days after the inspection, or after they purchase the vehicle, and I am there to support my clients as they need it nearly 24/7.

Inspections for local, out of state, and international buyers

We carry out inspections for local clients, in-state clients, out-of-state clients, and clients that are outside the US (international). We inspect local vehicles, in-state vehicles, out-of-state vehicles, and if the client needs it, even outside the country.

We do mobile inspections

We can inspect private party sales with a mobile pre-purchase vehicle inspection. Although a private seller is always welcome to bring the vehicle to us for your inspection, it isn't always practical to do so. Some vehicles can't be driven that distance, or the seller is reluctant. This is especially true for exotic cars, cars that have super low mileage on them, and cars that are currently in, or have been sitting in storage. Much like On-site Inspections, but usually without a lift, we can perform the inspection Mobile with our equipment out "in the field". Drewmotive can go to where the car is and inspect it.

We do on-site inspections

Dealers and car lots often times can bring us the vehicle, but if they cannot or they're too far away, we go to them to perform the inspection. We can travel On-Site and perform the inspection at the dealer or lot, and in fact, we travel all over the place. We frequently inspect around the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, the Texaplex, and of course, well beyond it. Some inspections are out of state and extended travel is needed to inspect for our clients.

We travel to the vehicle - anywhere

Extended travel inspections take us beyond the DFW metroplex area and frequently outside of the state of Texas. We inspect in-state vehicles, out-of-state vehicles, and if the client needs it, even outside the country. Some inspections require long distance driving, such as around the Texaplex in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio areas, or out in Tyler and up in Oklahoma. Other times air travel is required, such as our recent inspections in Detroit, Colorado Springs (where our photo above was taken), Boston, Chicago, or any other state.

We have the ability to schedule and accomplish inspections of this nature cost-effectively. We can travel and perform X-travel inspections both On-site or Mobile and we travel anywhere for clients. We carry out X-travel inspections for local clients, in-state clients, out-of-state clients, and clients that are outside the US (international). In-House pre-purchase vehicle inspections take place at our repair shop in Garland, Texas. Both sellers and clients are always invited to do the inspection here. Some sellers have crazy hours and some clients fly in only for the day and Drewmotive attempts to be flexible and accommodate that.

🤔 Buying remotely and need some help?
We have a protocol for that

Buying the inspected vehicle remotely, making a deal, doing paperwork, shuffling money, and how to handle the car raises many questions and concerns. This is especially the case when it's a private seller and you're out of state or outside the country. Sometimes, the seller won't do paperwork unless you send the money, won't let you see a copy of the title, won't keep the car inside, and/or maybe you don't get along well with the seller, or the seller is combative, and you can't leave the car waiting for transport after sending them your money. After you have argued the price with them, you may not feel too comfortable with them. There are unlimited reasons and even more ways things can go very wrong here.

We have protocol to handle this. We offer Deal Negotiations, Purchase Agency, Acquisition, Possession, Client Representation, and can handle all the paperwork on your behalf, including identity verification and Notary of all documents.

We can represent you while you are remote and can re-inspect the vehicle at time of purchase to verify the condition has not changed, settle the payment to the seller, collect a notarized bill of sale, verify the title and collect it, verify any included spare parts are with the car, then immediately take possession of your vehicle and transport it to our shop to hold safely, until it is delivered to you.

For out of state clients, some states are starting to require bill of sale(s) to be notarized and we typically notarize all bill of sale(s) and verify the identity of the seller(s) in addition to name(s), entity, or estate listed on the title.

This takes the stress out of the million things that can go wrong and turns it into a single solution that goes right and protects you. This is especially useful for international clients and we do this quite successfully for clients frequently.

We can store, then transport your purchase

After we inspect a car for you, we continue to work for you, if you need us. If you purchase the car, then the next events are to house and/or ship the car to you. Drewmotive can help by taking possession of the car and storing it protected inside at our facility, until a transporter becomes available to deliver it to you, or you may pick it up on your schedule.

For our international clients, temporary storage is incredibly usefull. Importation permits and customs paperwork takes time and during this time period, the vehicle will need to be stored both protected and insured in a controlled enviroment without the possiblity of damage occuring after the sale.

Our facility is smoke-free, completely fenced, fully alarmed, and under video surveilance. We have access to a nationwide transporter that we routinely trust with our transportation needs.
